Every day people are forced from their home due to disasters. Single and multi-family fires account for 90% of disaster responses for the American Red Cross. Compassionate and committed Disaster Action Team (DAT) volunteers help those families affected. Respond to home fires, flooding or other local disasters to provide resources, comfort and hope to those who have been affected. Be the beacon of hope to families who are likely having the worst day of their lives. Disaster Cycle Services Duty Officer ( Dispatcher) Support local disaster responses from your home! Liaison with local authorities by phone and computer, serving critical communications need. Dispatch and support Red Cross disaster responders. Responsibilities: Process requests from local authorities and assess whether Red Cross intervention is needed. Comprehensive training training will be provided, and additional support will be available as needed. Dispatch disaster response teams & resources and provide remote support. Attend meetings and stay current on all training. Commitment: Virtual regional position using home phone and Internet. May work from Red Cross office if preferred. Customizable on-call shifts which you schedule. Qualifications: Minimum age 18. Access to smart phone, computer, and Internet with ability to send/receive text messages. Willingness to use/learn new technology required for event documentation and support. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal. Comfortable working independently.
