Do you have hands-on experience working with animals and love the farm atmosphere? Are you great at interacting with the public? Then consider volunteering with the WNC Nature Center Farm Animals! There is 1 available Farm Animal shift on Saturdays from 12:00-2:00 . Tasks Include: - Working directly with the farm animals - Keeping the area clean by sweeping up stool throughout the day - Educating the public about goat, sheep, and donkey species - Ensuring guests adhere to safety guidelines including using hand sanitizer and not climbing into the enclosure with the animals - Volunteers are subject to adverse environmental conditions. Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift 30 lbs. - Vocal Communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word - Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels - Visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities If you are interested, please email volunteers@wildwnc.org!

Aviary Volunteer The aviary is the habitat of the red tailed hawk, turkey vulture, barn owls and great horned owl. If you love birds, consider volunteering at the Aviary! For this position you will be in the habitat with the birds. We are currently looking for a volunteer on Saturdays. There is flexibility on start time - shift is 45 minutes to one hour and must be completed by 2:00. Tasks Include: - Picking up remains of previous meals and excess droppings - Cleaning the water features and disinfecting the equipment - Checking doors for security Physical Requirements: - Ability to lift 10 lbs. - Ability to balance and climb on a sloped hill - Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word - Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels - Visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities. - Volunteers are subject to adverse environmental conditions If interested, please visit our website at https://wildwnc.org/volunteer for application materials. If you love that farm smell and don't mind getting a little dirty, this volunteer role is for you! We need help Monday mornings from 10am-12pm with barn chores. Tasks Include : - Cleaning stalls - Prepping barn animal diets (grain and produce) - Stuffing hay bags and filling water buckets - Helping the animals out into the farm area for the day - Ensuring that guests refrain from bringing food and drink into the barn and do not feed the animals - Please do not apply if you have a sensitivity to hay or dust Physical Requirements : - Ability to lift 30 lbs. - Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas using the spoken word - Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels - Visual acuity is required for determining the accuracy and thoroughness of work, and observing general surroundings and activities - Volunteers are subject to adverse environmental conditions If interested, please visit our website https://wildwnc.org/volunteer for application materials.
