Notre Dame Mission Volunteers, AmeriCorps (NDMVA) is seeking applicants to serve as Full-time AmeriCorps Members at Grace Academy in Hartford, CT from August 16, 2024-June 30, 2025. Grace Academy is an accredited, tuition-free middle school (5th-8th grade) serving girls of all faiths from underserved families residing in Hartford and the surrounding areas. Grace Academy’s academically challenging and highly structured environment helps students grow in a love for learning and an abiding sense of responsibility to their community. In the NativityMiguel tradition, the school promotes the intellectual, creative, social, spiritual, and physical growth that inspires girls to reach for a college education and rewarding career. Grace Academy achieves impressive academic and high school placement results through an innovative co-teaching model, a model which compliments the experience of veteran effective educators (Lead Teachers), with the enthusiasm and promise of talented recent college graduates (Grace Academy Fellows). Job Purpose: To assist Grace Academy teachers on a day to day basis and to foster the development of students within the NativityMiguel tradition. The Academic Fellow plays an integral role in the smooth operation and effectiveness of the overall program. Grace Academy’s holistic program includes: breakfast meals, free lunch for students (2 days/week) recess, study hall, club activities, sports, field trips and summer school. The academic fellow also assists teachers in their efforts to educate the students we serve. This includes assistance with Unit and Lesson Plans, library services, progress report, facilitation of parent relationships. Fellow Responsibilities: Be present, ready to work and on time for all scheduled hours - school days, field trips & PD workshops as defined by the school calendar. Promote social emotional learning and student success through extracurricular activities Organizes Club activities and athletic competitions Assists with student discipline according to the Handbook, keeping in mind the needs of the students. Communicates with parents/guardians Helps organizes and Attends Parent Council meetings Working with teachers, helps identify student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Creates an effective environment for learning through attractive displays such as bulletin boards, etc. Maintains professional competence through in-service professional development activities provided by the school, attends professional development workshops/conferences, and/or university courses. Supervision duties as assigned, including, but not limited to: substitute teaching, lunch/recess duty, chaperoning of field trips, Clubs, sports, etc. Works in collaboration with the Executive Director, Instructional Coaches, and School Counselor(s) to provide a quality faith-based education for each student. Attends and participates in faculty meetings. Maintains professional appearance.

ND AmeriCorps Fellows are asked to commit to a two-year fellowship intended to develop their knowledge and skills as educational instructors. As a member of the NativityMiguel Coalition, Covenant School of Bridgeport is on an extended day program, running from approximately 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM and includes a Summer Academy in the month of June-July. AmeriCorps Fellows play an integral part in the life of the school, supports instruction in the classrooms, and receive training and support from the Principal and mentor teachers. I n addition to classroom instruction responsibilities. Fellows participate in the school’s advisory, athletics/activities, enrichment and service programs. Trinity Academy is an independent, tuition-free elementary school (grades 1-4) for Hartford area students. We provide a safe and nurturing learning environment for our students with small class sizes (10-15 students per class) and lots of individual attention. Our school day runs from 8:15am-3:20pm, and is filled with intensive academics, enrichment activities/specials classes (gym, choir, art, gardening) and we provide breakfast, two snacks and lunch every day to all students. Responsibilities: Create a safe and nurturing learning environment. Teach Art, Music, Gym, and/or an alternative enrichment course to grades 1-4. Develop and submit weekly lesson plans. Work under the guidance of our Curriculum Coach. Deliver group and individual student instruction. Handle social/emotional issues as they arise. Monitor students in a variety of educational environments (e.g. classroom and virtual classroom, cafeteria, playground, school grounds, hallways, restrooms, field trips, etc.) for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment. The successful candidate will possess most of these qualifications: 1+ years’ experience working with children, preferably ages 6-10. Bachelor's Degree preferred, but years of experience can substitute. Dedication to education and the advancement of students’ academic, social, and emotional well-being. Ability to form strong, positive relationships with staff, students, and families. Time management skills. Experience working with under-resourced families preferred.
