I volunteered for BACS' Money Management program for a year in 2000. It was quite a rewarding and eye-opening experience. I received educational materials and in-person training. I was matched with a senior based on my location and availability. She also had an assigned social worker who provided me helpful information. We met about 2 hours per week. In that time I was able to help her reduce high interest rate credit card debt, sign up for low-income programs for which she qualified, cancel insurance and other services that she did not mean to sign up for, identify and resolve fraudulent drafts on her bank account and fight unfair bank fees. I had to stop volunteering when my job situation changed. It was a great experience and nice organization to work with.
