Local Red Cross Disaster Volunteers in Action - CT RI Region Photo

The Connecticut and Rhode Island Region serves residents in Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Fishers Island, N.Y. Volunteers assist in all of our departments providing direct service to our clients, administrative support, special event committees, fundraising events, and a variety of other roles.

Programs and Services:

Disaster Response and Relief for victims of natural and man-made disasters.

Health and Safety Education, including First Aid, CPR and Automated External Defibrillator certification, Babysitter Training, Lifeguard Training and more.

Service to the Armed Forces, including family emergency contacts and counseling for military families.

International Social Services, including family tracing and reunification services.

Support of Blood Collection, providing volunteer support of blood drives that generate blood products distributed to hospitals and acute care facilities in Connecticut.

Mission Statement

The American Red Cross is a humanitarian organization, led by volunteers, that provides relief to victims of disasters and helps people prevent, prepare for and respond to emergencies. We do this through services that are consistant with our Congressional charter and the Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross Movement. These are Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity, and Universality.

I have not volunteered with the Red Cross since leaving the military. While volunteering i provided support to transitioning military families going back stateside and military families with newborns by providing welcome packets.
