We have KITTENS/CATS being adopted seven days a week in six Pet Supply stores like PetSmart, PETCO, and Pet Supplies Plus. Our partnership with these stores requires a volunteer attend to the cats twice a day. That means 84 volunteer shifts a week. We have more than 200 volunteers at varying levels of engagement and doing different tasks. We need a person to implement the best practices volunteer match teaches on their site, materials, and blogs. We want the best relationship possible with our volunteers. Getting cats in the condos is a major task. We acquire and evaluate every cat. Vaccinate, and administer preventative medications. We foster the cats through quarantine, medical issues, socialization, and maturity to reach adoptability. We keep thorough computerized records on each cat's health, treatments, vaccinations, microchip, sterilization, and rabies vaccination. We give this complete information record to the adopter, so it must be accurate. We post the cats to adoption sites, receive, and review each application to adopt. The application allows the potential adopter to indicate areas they want more information on like claw trimming, introducing the new cat to children or another pet, etc. We speak to potential adopters, arrange a "meet and greet" at the pet supply store, and come prepared to address their questions. If it is a good match, we complete the adoption paperwork, including paperwork the stores require and hand off the cat to their new family. Photograph the new family, post to BAND and the process starts all over again.

Become a temporary foster for one of our adoptable cats/kittens from time to time when your schedule allows. We have kittens/cats residing seven days a week in special habitats at six pet supply stores like PetSmart, PETCO, and Pet Supplies Plus. The are available to adopt seven days a week which is why we adopt close to 300 cats per year. Space Foster: We will have cats ready to go to a condo but nothing empty at the time so we need a foster to care for the cat/kitten until we have an adoption and a condo becomes available. Quarantine Foster: When we take in a cat/kitten we do a Health Intake exam, treat any issue we find like fleas, diarrhea, or goopy eyes. We vaccinate, treat with flea prevention and intestinal and quarantine the kitten for at least a week before moving it to a condo in one of the pet supply stores to show for adoption. Going to a new home is stressful enough for the cat so we want to be sure the cat is healthy before going to their new home. Medical Foster: Stress can cause a cat a cat to develop conjunctivitis (pink eye), upper respiratory infection, or diarrhea. When that occurs we want to remove the cat from the condo and place it in foster care where it can be medicated for a week to ten days. These conditions can be contagious to the other cats in the condo and it turns off an adopter's interest. We train if necessary and provide the supplies you need, all you add is love.

Before our commitment to become NO KILL you could drop by the shelter whenever you had spare and walk a dog. Becoming no kill changed our focus to improving the dog's behavior and obedience skills to enhance their ability to get adopted. This also increases their chances of staying in their new home, so they will never be homeless again. This focus has resulted in a 98% live release of dogs. This means is EVERY walk for the dog is a training session to make them more adoptable. To accomplish this goal Canine Companions are thoroughly trained, by professionally trained volunteers , before they begin walking the dogs. There are levels of training and hands on experience as a volunteer advances through the levels. If you want to save dogs lives, this is how you do it. Higher kill shelters don’t focus on training the animals, because the dog probably won’t make it out alive, so its behavior doesn’t matter. We are committed to changing the dog’s behavior and placing them in a home, regardless of how long it takes.

We're looking for a volunteer that is already proficient in working with Better Impact Volunteer Tracking Software. We use the software daily for what we know. We want a volunteer that has worked with the software is is aware of the other capabilities and uses. We are unable to train on the software because we don't know the programs potential uses. Without experience in using the software it would take a lot of time for someone to get up to speed. Currently potential volunteers complete an online application, receive an automated welcome email that drives them to an orientation video and job specific training modules. Volunteers can view the volunteer opportunities, available shifts, sign up, and log completed hours. Most of the processes have been in place for a long time so a "fresh look" could reveal enhancements to better our volunteer experience. More how to videos would be helpful Better updates and appreciation messages to the volunteers Things we might not know so we don't know what to ask I am eager to hear your experience and ideas.

LCPA adopts around 300 cats/kittens per year saving them from a life on the street or possible euthanasia In animal shelters. We have adoptable cats and kittens residing seven days a week in cat habitats at SIX pet supply stores. Three in League City, Two in Clear Lake City, and 1 in Kemah . PETCO, PetSmart, and Pet Supplies Plus. The adoptable cats and kittens are showing and being adopted seven days a week. This agreement with the stores requires we keep the habitats clean and take care of the cat's other needs. Volunteers feed, scoop, give the cats enrichment by socializing and playing for how ever long you want to stay. A typical shift is one hour and the times are flexible. We have many parents working with their children to teach them responsibility, and spending time together. While in the store you will answer questions from the store customers about the cats in the habitat, who we are, what you do and invite them to volunteer with us. You will be trained so you can explain the adoption process and direct them to our website to complete an application or view our other adoptable cats. You can advance to doing "meet & greets" with the potential adopters, train other volunteers as they join. Train to become an adoption counselor, able to approve and process adoption paperwork. Ultimately you could become a co mentor for a store. Don't worry, you move at your own pace. If you decide volunteering in the stores isn't for you, you can become a Feline Friend at the Shelter. You could be a temporary foster for our cats or the animal shelter. You can do as much or as little as your schedule allows. Saving lives is what we do and you can too.
