Purpose: The OT/PT Assistant will help individuals with developmental disabilities improve their physical capabilities with movement, exercise, relaxation, and individualized therapies. The presence of an OT/PT Assistant allows for more participation by very appreciative individuals. An excellent "service learning" opportunity for OT/PT students!

Responsibilities and Duties:

An OT/PT Assistant, under the guidance and supervision of Kaposia staff, is assigned from one to three individuals, depending upon the activity. Activities might include physical exercise, water exercise, or massage (if the OT/PT has massage therapy experience).

An OT/PT Assistant is guided by and defers to Kaposia staff regarding medical, emotional or personal care of individuals.

Reports to: Kaposia’s Community Specialist in charge of the
activity

Location: OT/PT Assistants are welcome at all of Kaposia’s locations; Roseville & Golden Valley. OT/PT Assistants with a particular interest in water therapy are needed at our Golden
Valley location only.

Time Commitment: One day per week for four hours (9:00am-1:00pm), sometimes less, for a minimum of five consecutive weeks. Each OT/PT Assistant is asked to commit to a minimum of one day per week for a period of five weeks. After five weeks, each OT/PT Assistant can recommit for another five weeks or more, contingent on the approval of Kaposia staff.

Qualifications: Dependability, pleasant manner, patience. OT/PT experience highly preferred, but other physical health and wellness related interests will be considered.

Age Requirement: 18 or older

Support: Training for this position will be provided; including information on vulnerable adult policy, safety & emergency procedures, and data privacy.

Security Checks Required: MN Department of Human Services
Background Study

Dress Code: Active Casual, depending upon the activity.
