Mission Statement

Our Mission is to positively impact the lives of young people in the Oakland and Hayward metropolitan areas by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf.

Description

The First Tee of the East Bay is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization originally formed in 2004 to provide developmental and educational opportunities for underserved youth through golf. In 2008, the Board determined that its mission could best be achieved by affiliating with the national organization, The First Tee, and operating as "The First Tee of Oakland." In 2013 the program expanded its reach into Hayward and officially changed names to "The First Tee of the East Bay."

Since 2010 Over 5000 Oakland and Hayward students have participated in TFTEB after school program, most of whom are low-income students facing many challenges at home and at school.

Using curriculum developed by experts in the field of positive youth development through sports, our trained coaches and volunteers lead participants through weekly lessons focused on building essential life skills such as goal setting, interpersonal skills, self management and resiliency skills. Additionally, all students are exposed to The First Tee Nine Core Values: honesty, integrity, sportsmanship, respect, confidence, responsibility, perseverance, courtesy, and judgment through fun and engaging golf games.
