Are you looking for a way to help out, but don't have time to volunteer during the week? Do you love to bake? Sign up today to bake a cake or two for a good cause! Our Daily Bread is a hospitality ministry/soup kitchen serving 400-500 meals a day. Cakes are used to celebrate our guests birthdays. Get on the Baker's Club calendar!

Cake description: Two layer, 8-9" round cakes, decorated as elaborately or simply as you want. Please avoid putting fresh fruit on cakes. Cakes should be gender neutral. We do not know which guest will get which cake.

Cake can be baked any time offsite and delivered to Our Daily Bread, Monday - Thursday, 8:30am - 2:00pm and Friday 8:30am - noon. Before coming please confirm with the Director of Communications. When delivering cakes, p lease come to our donation door in the back alley. If you are coming south on Race, make a left on Elder, and then an immediate right behind our building. Follow the arrows to the green door and ring the bell. Someone will help you unload and you can be on your way. No parking necessary!

Cakes should be packaged with the date written on the front of the box in black marker. We have cake boxes (for packaging) here that you can pick up in advance or you can purchase the cakes boxes. Our boxes are 10"x10"x6" high.

We accept donations of 1-20 cakes at a time. We freeze them to ensure their freshness when a guest comes in with a birthday.

If you need community service hours or are doing service for credit, we recognize 2 hours of service for each cake baked for up to 6 hours, per person, per month. Also, only 1 person may receive service hour credit per cake baked. If you need additional service hours you may volunteer in our soup kitchen or in Kid's Club.

About Our Daily Bread - Soup Kitchen and Social Center

Location:

1730 Race Street, Cincinnati, OH 45202, US

Mission Statement

OUR VISION Every person in the Greater Cincinnati community has sufficient access to food, essential social services and a safe place of belonging. OUR MISSION To provide stability and hope to guests in need by offering meals, hospitality and services in a safe, respectful environment, located in Over the Rhine.

Description

Our Daily Bread is Cincinnati’s largest soup kitchen, open since 1985. We serve 300+ hot, nutritious, free meals five days a week to neighbors who do not have a safe way to store or cook food for themselves, primarily people experiencing homelessness. Our guests are encouraged to go through the lunch line as many times as they need to get their fill. We also distribute shelf-stable bagged meals for guests to have something to eat during evenings and weekends.

Our soup kitchen operates with the support of our community- 100% of the food we serve is donated or rescued, sparing thousands of pounds of usable food from landfills each year. We partner with many friends around Cincinnati to bring food through our doors, like bakeries, restaurants, and grocery stores that donate food they are unable to use; individuals who transport rescued food around the tristate; or youth who run canned food drives at their schools.

We host hundreds of volunteers each year who transport rescued food and prepare and serve meals to our guests. Each soup kitchen shift requires 10-15 volunteers, giving people from all walks of life an opportunity to truly connect with their neighbors.

In 2021, we served 160,076 meals using 228,972 pounds of rescued or donated food and 11,640 volunteer hours.

Our goal is simply to be the best hosts we can be to the people who need us, striving to honor the dignity, humanity and light in each of our guests.
