A*Med Community Hospice is committed to providing a high quality, comprehensive palliative program dedicated to promoting comfort and quality of life for clients and families facing a terminal illness. A key component of providing this care is the hospice volunteer.
Volunteers can assist our patients in a number of ways:
-Staying with a patient so their loved one/caregiver can take a break or run errands.
-Providing companionship and socialization to a patient and/or family member either at a nursing home facility or a patient's private home (the patients do not live at our office location).
-Providing support to the office staff.
-Creating crafts for patients to brighten their day such as holiday cards, lap blankets, knitted hats.
*Note: creating crafts for patients is a great project for a group wishing to complete community service hours.
As a hospice volunteer, you will not be responsible for providing any medical care to the patient (i.e. give medication, give bathes). A volunteer is a friendly visitor.
Volunteer requirements:
-Volunteers must go through 8 hours of volunteer training; 3 hours for office support volunteers
- No training is needed for those wishing to make crafts for patients .
-Volunteers must pass a background check
-Have their own transportation
-Be reliable
-TB Test
We serve Travis, Williamson, Hays, Bastrop, Burnet, Lee, Caldwell, Fayette, and Lee counties.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss volunteering at A*Med, please contact Rachel Annable LCSW or Julie Lysinger LMSW at (512) 323-6500.
