Puppy Development Assistants help out with socializing and training puppies. Puppies will be exposed to various tasks, sights, and sounds to train and condition certain behaviors that are highly desired in guide dogs. While we have a litter here at Guide Dogs of Texas we will need help from volunteers so we can have someone with the new puppies at all times. In addition to cleaning and caring for the pups, volunteers can be asked to help to administer puppy temperament testing, record data, take puppies on car rides, train puppies to make eye contact, read hand signals, and teach them to do a kindergarten sit. This is an activity that the entire family can enjoy.

As the only guide dog training school in Texas, Guide Dogs of Texas provides one-to-one customized training and lifetime aftercare services to legally blind Texans. We train guide dogs, trainers, and the client who is newly-matched to his or her guide dog.
