We invite you to help us protect Blandford Nature Center’s native plant communities by joining Land Stewardship Volunteer Coordinator, Jessie Schulte, for a rewarding day of controlling harmful invasive non-native plants from ecologically sensitive areas.
- Build field skills
- Work in Nature
- Restore Habitat
- Preserve ecological diversity
- Earn Service Hours
Autumn olive, oriental bittersweet, honeysuckle and other invasive shrubs threaten many habitats throughout this widely used property. Help remove shrubs that threaten to fill in ecological diversity. Removing invasive shrubs from the Nature Center property will allow the native grasses and wildflowers to thrive. We need your help!
Where? Meet in the Blandford Nature Center Parking Lot at 1715 Hillburn Ave. NW Grand Rapids, MI 49504. We are just north off Leonard Road NW.
When? Twice monthly SATURDAY Mornings: 9:30-12:30pm.
We also have weekly stewardship work days, call us to find out about weekday activities. In the summer there are weekly activities like planting in the meadow. Please call the main visitor center for details.

What to wear? Please be prepared to work outside, wear clothing and shoes that can get dirty. If you have loppers and gloves you should bring those as well. If you don't own a pair, no worries, we can provide.
CANNOT MAKE THE DATES. CALL US AND WE CAN SET UP A DAY THAT WILL WORK FOR YOU. We are grateful for your interest. The second greatest threat to our wild places is invasive species. Come stop these invaders from taking over. Thank you!

Our vision is to invigorate relationships with nature that lead individuals to transform their community and create a healthy, sustainable world.
Description
Using 143 acres of land and wildlife as the backdrop, Blandford Nature Center provides education and community programs that:
- Educate our community to understand our environment, our heritage, and our connection to natural systems.
- Engage people to actively use natural spaces and adopt sustainable practices.
- Empower people to embrace nature and new perspectives.
Blandford Nature Center believes children and adults learn best through personal experience. Our job, and our passion, is to invite our community to get their hands dirty in nature - whether that be standing knee-high in water to learn about stream ecology or planting squash seeds to start a garden.
