School-Based Mentors are assigned to a student in K-5 for the duration of the school year, based on the mentor and the child's interests. Mentors meet with their assigned student once a week, at the child's school, for about 45 minutes to an hour. Activities can range from helping with school work, playing games, sharing interests or simply chatting about school or home-life over lunch. Whatever the activity, the focus is on forming a supportive relationship with the child and encouraging school success. Every mentor, child and match is assigned a Mentor Coordinator who will be available and on-site for support and guidance. Volunteer Mentors for students in K-5 are needed at the following schools:
Bancroft Elementary School - 700 N Lombard St, Wilmington, DE
Bayard Middle School - 200 South DuPont St, Wilmington DE
Seaford Middle School - 500 East Stein Hwy, Seaford DE
Shortlidge Academy - 100 W 18th St, Wilmington, DE
Stubbs Elementary School - 1100 N Pine St, Wilmington, DE
Warner Elementary School - 801 W 18th St, Wilmington, DE

Since 1964, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Delaware has been providing high-quality mentoring services for children throughout Delaware. Our service is based on a one-to-one relationship between an adult volunteer and a young person who needs extra adult attention and guidance. Volunters serve as friends, mentors, and role models, helping children (who are primarily from single-parent homes) gain greater self-confidence. "Bigs" encourage "Littles" to realize their potential and to see themselves as having happy and successful futures.
