The Refugee Development Center (RDC) is a nonprofit organization devoted to developing the skills of more than 800 refugees and immigrants from over 40 countries each year. We offer English classes, after-school tutoring, computer skills, driving practice, and community and cultural orientation to dozens of new arrivals each week. Our drop-in center is staffed by over 300 volunteers annually, who are the life-blood of our programming.
We have a number of volunteer opportunities available for the current semester (ending December 11), including helping in an ESL (English as a Second Language) classroom with adults and providing after-school tutoring for refugee youth in their schools. If you are interested in getting involved, please email Kristina Sankar, volunteer coordinator, at refugeedevelopmentcenter@gmail.com. We look forward to hearing from you!
Attending a volunteer training is mandatory for all volunteers.

Mission Statement
Providing education, orientation, and support refugees need to become self-sufficient members of society.
Description
The Refugee Development Center was started in 2002 with the goal of providing an educational center for the 400-600 refugees who are resettled in the Lansing area each year. Refugees are legal immigrants who have fled persecution for reasons of race, gender, and/or ethnicity and now find themselves in a foreign country, traumatized by what they have been through but committed to starting over nonetheless.
