StandUp For Kids-DC is committed to ending the cycle of youth homelessness. We carry out our mission through our volunteers, who go to the streets to find, stabilize and otherwise help homeless and street kids improve their lives. We have been on the streets since January 1990 in cities across Amuerica.

Street Outreach Counselors walk the streets in teams, to find and help homeless and street kids. Counselors provide food, clothing and hygiene products but most importantly must genuinely care about the kids and work patiently and consistently with those kids to help save their lives.

Counselors befriend the kids while helping them work toward a life off the streets through connecting them to resources such as housing, employment, food and education. Counselors also provide moral support to these kids.

Mission Statement

The mission of StandUp for Kids is to end the cycle of youth homelessness. We do this one life at a time. Every day, homeless youth face obstacles that most of us cannot comprehend. Where will I have my next meal? When can I shower? Where will I sleep tonight? We assist homeless youth in tackling some of their everyday obstacles and work towards a life of safety, good health, and connections off the streets.

Description

StandUp for Kids is a national non-profit organization dedicated to ending the cycle of youth homelessness in local communities like ours in Washington, DC and 17 other cities across the country. Since 1990, we have cared for homeless and at-risk youth by transitioning them from crisis to connection. We give our youth a sense of safety, hope, and belonging through housing support, mentoring, drop-in centers, and street outreach. We bear the highest independent ratings for fiscal stewardship of all donations.
