We are looking for mentors for our middle school mentoring program! This is a one-on-one, school-based program that focuses on building a caring, consistent, and respectful relationship with a student. Mentors must have a sincere desire to be involved with a student to help him or her achieve personal and academic goals. Mentors must also have the ability to communicate with 11-14 year olds openly and non-judgmentally, with equality of responsibility and respect. Time commitment is a minimum of 2 visits per month, with a mandatory orientation, and ongoing training. Sign up now to become a new mentor. Students meet with their mentors over lunch, from 12pm to 1pm.

1939 S. 58th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19143, US

Mission Statement

Our mission is to educate children, including those from at-risk neighborhoods, in an environment that provides the highest standards of academic achievements and spiritual developments. It is our vision to be a modern urban Christian School where students are grounded in faith, shaped with Christ-like character, and equipped with knowledge and skills to excel in high school, college and throughout life.

Description

Cornerstone's roots lie in the compassion and dedication of Christians throughout the Philadelphia region. In response to the 1980 Philadelphia teachers strike and subsequent distress in Philadelphia schools, attorney James Sweet and evangelist Tony Campolo began investing themselves in the lives of children in Southwest Philadelphia. By 1988 Cornerstone Christian Academy was born with 40 children, kindergarten to third grade. Located in the heart of southwest Philadelphia at 58th Street and Kingsessing Avenue, Cornerstone has since grown to over 175 kindergarten to eighth grade students, 15 teachers and an annual operating budget of $2.9 million. Cornerstone is a co-educational, independent Christian school offering a full academic program for its students.
