Volunteers are matched one-on-one with an elementary student during the school year. One day a week (usually during the school's lunch hour) the volunteer will go to the school to meet with their student, to talk, enjoy lunch together, and read aloud. Volunteers commit to doing this on the same day and at the same time each week throughout the school year. To make certain that the program functions smoothly, trained school coordinators oversee each program and are supervised by a professional staff member.

Choose from: Capitol View Elementary, Carver Community School, Children & Family Urban Movement, Downtown School, Edmunds Elementary, Findley Elementary, Hillside Elementary (WDM), King Elementary, Lakewood Elementary (Norwalk), Monroe Elementary, Oviatt Elementary (Norwalk), Pella Christian Grade School (Pella), River Woods Elementary, Saint Theresa's Elementary, South Union Elementary, Terrace Elementary (Ankeny), Walnut Street School, Whittier Elementary (Indianola), Wilder Elementary (Indianola), and Windsor Elementary.

After a brief background check, volunteers will receive an orientation and be matched with a student.
