ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Greater Carolinas Chapter

The Social Work/Client Programs Intern works with the Programs and Services Department of the National MS Society, Greater Carolinas Chapter, to serve people affected by MS. The department is staffed by social workers, two of whom hold MSW degrees.

Internship Responsibilities Include:

  • Communicate with clients regarding upcoming programs and teleconferences.
  • Research and update targeted community service agencies throughout chapter area.
  • Assist with newly diagnosed follow up - Knowledge is Power mailings
  • Self-Help Groups - Contact with leaders, attend occasional meetings in the Triangle area.
  • Assist in planning of education programs.
  • Research Financial Assistance resources throughout chapter area.
  • Assist in assessing the chapter's financial assistance program by surveying recipients.
  • Assist Programs Department staff with outreach to rural communities and underserved populations.
  • Assist clients with completion of financial assistance applications and respite care applications.
  • Attend professional conferences to bring awareness to MS and the National MS Society.
  • Send quarterly email blasts highlighting programs and direct services.
  • Assist with budgeting and planning
  • Update Chapter’s Hurricane guide

Unpaid internship. Full or part-time schedule available (within regular business hours - Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM).

The Greater Carolinas Chapter, with offices located in Raleigh, Greensboro, and Charlotte, NC, serves over 18,000 individuals affected by MS in North and South Carolina. We help each person address the challenges of living with MS and raise funds for MS research. Our vision is a World Free of MS!
