Reading, writing, and math tutors needed in Collin and Denton counties

Access!, one of EMM's outreach programs, provides free one-on-one instruction to underserved students in grades 3-8 in Plano, Frisco, and North Dallas. Tutoring sessions are planned each Tuesday and Thursday from 7 to 9 p.m. Additional days will be added if needed.

Due to the success of this year's peer tutoring program, we are now a peer tutoring program. We need exceptional 12- to 18-year-old students who are willing to spend no more than two hours a week tutoring students in math, reading, and writing. You will have the chance to use your English and math skills to aid students in the learning of these subjects. Furthermore, students can earn community service hours. We have several students who are volunteers for personal benefit! Visit www.myaccesstutoring.com to sign up as a tutor.

Tutoring sessions for Plano and Frisco ISD students will take place at Haggard Library, 2501 Coit Road in Plano. Sessions in additional city libraries are yet to be determined and based on student need. The Plano Public Library System is not the sponsor of this tutoring program. We chose the library because it is a safe and quiet environment for the students we serve.

All tutors must provide references; and we conduct criminal background checks on volunteers who are 18.

Services are provided to students regardless of their race, ethnicity, religion or disability. Groups and individuals who need volunteer hours for organization requirements are welcome to apply.

Mission Statement

Our goal is to provide free remedial tutoring math and English tutoring to school-age children and first generation college and university students in Dallas, Denton and Collin counties.

Description

Access! was founded on the basis that all children, regardless of their socioeconomic background, should have access to resources beyond the classroom to build their understanding of English and math. Our tutors possess education backgrounds in the subjects they tutor. For higher education students, Gen 1 students possess harder changes to receiving a degree. We help these students transition from public school education to college education. The director is a former NCAA student-athlete tutor.
