Mission Statement

Learning Leaders is New York City’s largest and most experienced organization dedicated to engaging families and communities to support
student success.

Serving NYC public schools since 1956, our programs are proven to contribute to student achievement by enhancing schools’ learning environments, providing additional resources to schools, and increasing parents’ ability to support their children’s education.

Description

Learning Leaders recruits, trains and supports over 6,000 school volunteers who work in nearly 300 schools throughout the five boroughs.

Trained and screened volunteers provide one-on-one tutoring in reading, writing, ESL, math and other academic subjects at the elementary and middle school level, as well as non-instructional aid such as general office and library assistance. Volunteers also supplement school curriculum with enrichment programs such as book clubs.

Students gain academic knowledge, but also confidence, self-determination and proof of their own potential. Volunteers treasure the opportunity to make a lasting contribution to another’s life, far beyond the classroom. Teachers value a trusted partner in their classroom who gives them reliable support and assistance.
