Description

All programs involve a weekly commitment of one hour. A Brevard school district background check must be completed before volunteers are allowed to work with children.

Read Aloud Program: Volunteer reads aloud to a classroom (once a week-same day and time every week) to develop children's comprehension skills. This enjoyable experience instills a love of reading in the children.

Tutor/Mentor Program: Tutors work one-on-one with at-risk children in 2nd grade to develop independent reading skills, while improving their comprehension and fluency.

3rd Grade Program (G.R.I.P.) Volunteers work with small groups of 8-9 year old at-risk children in a work-shop style setting with "fun" activiies to reinforce reading skills. All volunteers must complete a free, one-time training session that provides materials & 'how to' tips.
