The Washington State Long-Term Care Ombudsman Program is an essential link in our long-term care system that protects and promotes the Resident Rights guaranteed to long-term care residents under federal and state law and regulations. We are currently looking for volunteers who would be interested in serving as advocates for residents in nursing homes, adult family homes, and assisted living facilities that protect their rights and quality of life in these spaces on the ground.

Residents of long-term care facilities sometimes have little or no contact with the outside world. Many feel they lack control over their lives. A friendly volunteer who visits regularly can be a bright spot in an elderly resident's day. Many residents are alone and would be very happy to have your visits. This may also help ensure they get good care if someone from the community is looking in on them regularly.

Each volunteer in Washington State’s volunteer-based Ombudsman Program spends 4+ hours a week in nursing homes, adult family homes, or assisted living facilities working to resolve complaints while advocating for residents. Volunteers serve as advocates on the ground to help preserve the quality of life for residents in the region.

We are looking for volunteers that:

  • Are 18+ years-old
  • Have reliable transportation.
  • Have compassion, respect for older persons, and common sense.
  • Have a positive attitude and can communicate effectively.

You will develop skills in:

  • Communication
  • Listening
  • Relationship Building
  • Confidentiality
  • Complaint Resolution
  • Resident’s Rights

If this sounds like an opportunity you would enjoy, we invite you to apply!

Upcoming Volunteer Certification Training: Oct. 16 -20th at 3102 W Whistalks Way

Mission Statement

Increasing the human potential of our community by providing opportunities for people in need.

Description

SNAP (Spokane Neighborhood Action Partners) is the local and regional advocate for the most vulnerable people living within our community. With a dedicated board of directors, staff and volunteers, SNAP diligently searches for long-term solutions to eliminate poverty. For over 50 years SNAP has served the Spokane region as a leading voice on poverty. As the Spokane area’s Community Action leader, SNAP takes the lead in educating and empowering our low-income neighbors. We’ve always believed that a hand-up goes a lot further than a hand-out, and have, since our inception, helped people transition from crisis to stability by caring for immediate needs while laying the foundation for future success.

Our mission is to increase the human potential of our community by providing opportunities for people in need.

One of Spokane County’s largest private human-services agencies, SNAP focuses on serving the whole family with a commitment to providing a wide-range of accessible services for those living in poverty.

SNAP has positioned neighborhood offices to provide the most basic of human needs that many of us take for granted.
