Welcome to San Francisco Suicide Prevention. We are looking for empathic and reliable individuals to staff our 24-hour crisis hotline. We have 56-hour trainings available four times yearly, where we teach prospective volunteers basic counseling skills, suicide assessment, emergency services, mental health referrals, LGBTQ issues, text-based support and HIV services.

San Francisco Suicide Prevention has been in operation since 1962, and was the first community based suicide hotline in the country. We operate with an emphasis of volunteers coming from all walks of life to provide peer-based support to those in crisis. There is a one-year or 200-hour minimum commitment.

All applicants must complete a volunteer application, available at the following URL:

This is a great volunteer opportunity for seniors and grad students!
