ORGANIZATION: National MS Society - Gateway Area Chapter

Position Summary:

The intern will assist with the organization, and/or implementation of the Women on the Move Luncheon that make possible our chapter's services and investment in MS-related medical research.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Event planning for Women on the Move and other agency events
  • Research of local companies and their involvement with nonprofit organizations
  • Assist donor development with securing table hosts and Woman of Courage nominations
  • Phone call follow-up on vendors and companies that provide services
  • Assist with compiling registration information for event
  • Attend committee meetings
  • Other duties, based on intern interest and agency priorities

Qualifications:

  • Special event planning, marketing, communications, public relations, or advertising student
  • Strong writing, verbal communication and computer skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and handle numerous assignments
  • Excel and/or Microsoft Word experience a plus
  • Intern must provide own transportation

Physical Requirements:

  • Able to stand for extended periods.
  • Must have ability to perform various office duties, including typing, talking on the phone as well as on location tasks, including taking photos at special events

Training / Orientation Provided:

  • The Volunteer Community Outreach Coordinator provides orientation to the agency and the internship
  • Training and education about MS
  • Clearly defined department priorities
  • Explanation of intern's scope of responsibilities. An intern work plan is drafted and signed by both the intern and supervisor at the start of the internship
  • Ongoing support and supervision provided by agency staff

Description

The National Multiple Sclerosis Society funds more MS research, offers more services for people with MS, provides more professional education programs and advances more MS advocacy efforts than any other MS organization in the world. Through its home office and nationwide network of chapters, the National MS Society provides assistance to over a million people annually in its continuing mission to end the devastating effects of multiple sclerosis.

Seeking volunteers to the MS cause is the very core of our business. Each year the Society organizes a series of community events that provide many opportunities for the enthusiastic volunteer. The Society offers four key fund-raising activities:

  • Bike MS
  • Walk MS

The Society also engages volunteers to help influence lawmakers at the federal, state and municipal levels toward legislation important to people living with MS. The Society is looking for passionate volunteers with expertise in areas such as:

  • Marketing/Communications
  • Public relations
  • Corporate and donor development
  • Medical, legal, administrative.
