Help homeless parents create a "home" for their children. Collect personal care products and cleaning supplies for new families entering Family HomeStead's Emergency Housing Program. Help the family set up housekeeping by providing essential supplies that cannot be purchased with food stamps.

This project is ideal for businesses, service groups, faith-based institutions, scout troops, etc. and can be done at any time of the year. Personal care items are as follows:

toilet paper, body soap, adult and children's toothbrushes, toothpaste, men's and women's deodorant, shavers and shaving cream, body lotion, combs and brushes, feminine hygiene products, shampoo and conditioner, and laundry detergent.

Cleaning supplies include: buckets, mops and brooms, duspans, dish soap (NOT diswasher soap), Comet or other abrasive cleanser, toilet bowl cleaner and brush, rubber gloves, all purpose cleaner (like Mr. Clean), glass cleaner, and sponges.

Please provide family-size items only -- no hotel-size items or 50-pound tubs of detergent. Contact Shalene, Director of Volunteers and Development at Family HomeStead prior to any collection to learn what items are currently most needed.

Mission Statement

Famly HomeStead's mission is to "...house homeless families and end homelessness for individual families in our program in the Metro Denver Area...."

Description

Family HomeStead provides emergency and transitional housing and supportive case management to homeless families with children. Believingthat families with children do not belong in shelters, we place families in 31 emergency and 58 transitional apartments located in Denver and Jefferson County, CO. Case managers assist each family as the parents work to take charge of their family's life, develop a reliable income, and locate permanent affordable housing.

Client outcome objectives are that, upon program completion, 75% of families will have next-step housing, 75% will have income to support next-step housing, and 75% will effectively address the issues that caused their homelessness as identified in their case plan. Families meet or exceed these objectives year after year.
