If you love to work with horses and/or people with disabilities this is the volunteer job for you. As a sidewalker or horse leader in a therapeutic riding lesson you will help maintain the safety of the special needs rider. Sidewalkers walk beside the horse and hold the rider as necessary. The leaders focus on the horse and guarantee he is under control at all times. Each lesson lasts 30 minutes so you must be able to walk in the deep arena sand for that length of time for multiple lessons. We offer lessons year round, and therefore work in all types of weather. We need reliable volunteers as our students depend on their therapy team to be at every lesson. When we don't have enough volunteers, our students cannot ride :(
