MDA Summer Camp Group Shot

The Muscular Dystrophy Association (MDA) represents families in 26 coastal counties affected by 43 variations of neuromuscular diseases ranging from Duchene to ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease. MDA hosts an annual summer camp every year in Kings, North Carolina for children with muscular dystrophy ranging in age from 6 - 17. The camp is a week-long, once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these children to do what every child does at camp - swim, boat, play sports, make arts & crafts and most importantly to them, make friends that face the same challenges that they do.

In 2014, MDA Summer Camp is scheduled June 7 - 13 and we are looking for volunteers to serve as counselors during the week. Each counselor is paired with a child, stays at camp for the entire duration in a cabin on the camp property and gets to participate in all the camp activities alongside the child they are aiding. We do have full time medical staff so a counselor's role is more of a partnership between the camper and yourself to ensure that they get the most out of the camp experience.

MDA does give recommendation letters for those in nursing/medical/PT/OT school and those looking to go to grad school. We can also give school/volunteer credit if you're looking for that. For more information on the opportunity, please contact Melissa Sinclair at msinclair@mdausa.org or via phone at 910-763-3114. Counselors must be 18 .
