Provide one-on-one or one-on-some tutoring support in reading, math, and general study skills. Meet students where they're at, rock out with some homework, and foster a love of learning. Change one student's trajectory and everything else follows.

Monday thru Friday 3-6pm in our brand new tutoring center!

The Session

  • Sit down with one or two students, usually the same every week
  • Figure what they could use a hand on that day. Sometimes a teacher will tell you
  • Ask students what they already know, 'cause they already know a lot
  • Work together, slow and steady, to fill in the gaps and make sense of the rest
  • Get things down and get things done
  • Celebrate with high-fives, screaming air-guitar solos, or a little moon walk
  • Gloat about it in a post-sesh reflection with your fellow Rock Stars

Support Provided

  • Orientation, so you know what you're getting into and how to get there
  • Content Support, so you can brush up on Algebra... lest you be rusty
  • Ongoing Reflection, so you can talk about how things are going with your fellow Rock Stars
  • Performance Feedback, so you know how you're doing

Benefits

It goes without saying that the best things about being a volunteer tutor are the relationships you build with students and the impact you see your fellow Rock Stars making week after week. MOI will give you the chance to experience our urban schools from the inside-out, hone your tutoring chops, and work to change lives. But wait, there's more! Rock Stars are rock stars, both in the classroom and out on the town. As such, we've been known to get together from time to time outside the confines of the schoolhouse for a free show here or a get-together there. We learn from each other, we support each other, and we have fun doing it.
