Do you care about environmental issues? Have an interest in teaching kids? Would you like to experience the Hudson River in a beautiful and unique way?

The Hudson River Sloop Clearwater is looking for volunteers for our fall sailing season to come aboard for a week and help teach kids about the Hudson River! No prior sailing experience necessary.

Our sloop has been sailing up and down the river from Albany to New York City since 1969, taking out student and adult groups to inspire love and community around the river. We need volunteers to make what we do possible! Learn more about volunteering onboard the sloop Clearwater and apply to be a volunteer at https://www.clearwater.org/education/volunteer-crew-on-the-sloop/!

Check out our TikTok @sloopclearwater for videos of our sloop and our programs, and our Instagram @sloopclearwater !!

We look forward to hearing from you! <3

About Hudson River Sloop Clearwater

Mission Statement

The mission of Clearwater is to preserve and protect the Hudson River for the benefit of its eco-system and human communities while creating new environmental leaders for a sustainable future.

Description

Clearwater was founded in 1969 by music legend and environmental activist Pete Seeger. The organization began with the launch of the Hudson River Sloop Clearwater--a majestic replica of the sloops that sailed the Hudson in the 18th and 19th centuries. The 106-foot-long tall ship was among the first vessels in the U.S. to conduct science-based environmental education aboard a sailing ship, virtually creating the template by which such programs are conducted around the world today.

Since the launch of the Clearwater, more than half a million young people and hundreds of thousands of adults have experienced their first real look at an estuary’s ecosystem aboard the sloop. The Clearwater has become America’s Environmental Flagship, and was named to the National Register of Historic Places in 2004 for its role in the environmental movement. Today, Clearwater is partnering with schools and community leaders to raise the bar of environmental education again. This time the health of the Hudson River must go hand and hand with a sustainable world of green jobs in a green economy.
