SMART is in need of experienced and successful grant writers who are interested in helping out a wonderful, all volunteer organization. At SMART, no participant is ever turned away from the program due to financial reasons. Over 65% of our participants cannot afford to pay $20 a lesson each week and therefore are on scholarship. The remaining 35% pay a sliding scale fee from $5-15. Obviously, in order for our program to keep providing its' services, funding must constantly be sought from private donations, community support, grant writing and fund raising.
We are looking for individuals who have experience in successfully researching, locating and writing grant proposals. Grants are needed for scholarships for riders, specific needed materials or equipment, staffing, facilities improvements, capital improvements, development and general program support.
SMART is a well run, fiscally responsible non-profit organization that has provided Therapeutic Horseback Riding to the local community for over 27 years! It has an active, supportive Board and an amazing group of volunteers that give of themselves, over and over again, to make a difference in the lives of those they serve. SMART is an all volunteer administered organization with no paid staff.
If you are looking for a place to volunteer your expertise in writing grants for a worthy organization, and really want to "make a difference", you will want to be part of the SMART Team!

Mission Statement
At SMART, we empower lives through the healing power of horses. Through therapeutic horse-related programs and activities our SMART riders and their families' quality of life is significantly improved. Through respectful partnerships with our horses, we create an environment that promotes a life of inclusion, respect, growth and independence.
Description
SMART provides an all-encompassing horsemanship program--where participants learn to groom and tack up their horses, ride to the utmost of their ability, and care for their horses afterwards. All of these horsemanship skills provide the participant with many physical, emotional and cognitive benefits. Some of these benefits include an increase in physical strength and stamina, an improvement in posture, balance and coordination, and an increase in attention span and independent skills. An increase in self esteem and a sense of empowerment are also gained from fostering a respectful, affectionate, working "partnership" with their horse. At SMART the movement of the horse, the connection to the horse, and the natural environment are all used to help heal the body, mind and spirit of each SMART participant.
SMART is a PATH Int'l, Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship International, Premier Center providing equine assisted services since 1987.
