Provide assistance for youth ages 5-21 with intellectual disabilities in their weekly bowling classes. Goals are to learn to use and display appropriate skills in a community-based setting, from learning how to pick out shoe size to waiting your turn to roll. Athletes range in skill level from novice through advanced. We also utilize bowling ramps and lane bumpers as appropriate. Season ends with county-wide bowling tournaments. Each class meets once weekly, so volunteers choose one or more of the following classes: Mon/Wed 10:00-11a.

The mission of Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes and the community.
Description
SOOC offers 18 sports year-round to more than 300 athletes of all ages and skill levels with developmental disabilities.
