Volunteer Roles
Volunteers are the life blood of Comfort Zone Camp - our camps could not happen without a large community of volunteers. And, as each year our services grow, so does our need for volunteers at camp, and outside of camp.
Become a volunteer - Comfort Zone Camp needs about 60-85 volunteers each program. Comfort Zone offers 3-day weekend programs and one-day family programs. Adults 18 and up are needed as Big Buddies, paired one-to-one with a camper. Teens 15-18 are needed as Junior Counselors. Licensed counselors and grief therapists are needed to facilitate our age-based support groups, and registered nurses are needed to administer medications and serve as on-site on-call throughout the weekend.
OVERVIEW:
During this six-hour program, you will meet Comfort Zone staff, campers, and volunteers who will explain what to expect at camp and how our program impacts grieving children and teens. You will receive education about childhood bereavement and we’ll give you tips on how to be successful in whichever volunteer role you are selected to fill.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
- Up to 90 individuals are required for each camp session in a variety of volunteer roles.
- You must be 15 years of age to become a volunteer.
- Annual updates of Health History, Confidentiality, and Criminal Background Checks, for those 18 and older, are required. $25.00 is requested to cover the annual background check.

Mission Statement
Comfort Zone provides grieving children with a voice, a place and a community in which to heal, grow and lead more fulfilling lives.
Description
Comfort Zone Camp is a nonprofit 501(c)3 bereavement organization that transforms the lives of children who have experienced the death of a parent, sibling, or primary caregiver. Our programs are free of charge and include confidence building activities and age-based support groups that break the emotional isolation grief often brings. Comfort Zone’s programs are offered to children ages 7-17, and their families for the family programs, plus we offer young adult programs for 18-25 year olds. Held year-round across the country, our primary locations are California, Massachusetts, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia (HQ). We also partner with organizations to serve their local or specific communities through our Partnership and Community by Design Programs.
Our Vision
Comfort Zone envisions a world where grieving children are not forgotten or left to grieve alone, and are supported by a wide community that understands and appreciates them.
