VITAS Healthcare is looking for volunteers to help provide care for terminally ill veterans. VITAS Veteran Volunteers are U.S. military veterans themselves and trained to meet the specific needs of veterans on hospice.
Veteran volunteers visit veterans on hospice; help veterans apply for benefits and are needed to attend or help plan activities for Memorial and Veteran’s Days events and educated veteran’s groups about hospice services. Veteran Volunteers are needed to visit veteran hospice patients at the Missouri Veterans Home located at 10600 Lewis and Clark Blvd., St. Louis, MO 63136. Veteran Volunteers provide friendly visits and listen to veterans’ life stories. They also assist and help with activities at the Missouri Veterans Home.
Volunteer training and orientation is provided to teach the skills required to be a hospice volunteers. Veteran Volunteers are trained to meet specific end- of- life needs of veterans to provide their quality of life. Days and times for volunteering are flexible according to your schedule and any time you are able to dedicate is greatly appreciated.
Veterans enjoy receiving visitors who will listen to their memories and life experiences. This is a great opportunity to share activities and hobbies with veterans to thank them for their service.
