A refugee never forgets the volunteer that helps them during their first months in the United States. You can make a huge difference in just a couple of hours a week.

Volunteers agree to spend a minimum of 2 hours per week with a refugee or refugee family for their first four months in the United States. The goal is to become a trusted friend to help refugees ease the stress of moving to a new country, home, and way of life. As a Family Friend you can provide encouragement and support and help them learn important skills like how to use MARTA, how to shop for groceries, and help them learn basic English.

Newly arrived refugees are from Burma, Bhutan, and eastern and central Africa and live mostly in the East Metro area (Decatur/Clarkston/Stone Mountain)

Monthly in-service meetings provided. Volunteers must be over 21 and submit to background check provided by agency.
