About Weiss Advocacy Center

Mission Statement
To prevent child abuse and help survivors become children again
Description
Each year over 2000 children are confirmed victims of abuse and neglect in Genesee County. These children need someone to plead for them; someone to take their side. They need the Weiss Advocacy Center. Part of our work is to protect the children who are victims today. But the other part centers on preventing child abuse and neglect in the first place. The Weiss Advocacy Center provides a vast array of prevention services and training. We help children learn about appropriate touch. We teach parents non-abusive ways to cope with frustration. We train professionals to report suspected child abuse.
Abused children are scared, hurt and confused. Unfotunately, physical exams and interviews are conducted in order to prosecute offenders. The Weiss Advocacy Center facilitates a single interview and exam in a child-friendly and safe enviornment. We work for and with the child to make recommendations to the judge about where that child should live and provide a consistent, caring, adult for the child, reminding them that someone cares and is watching out for them.
