Changing our community can be as simple as smiling as customers, putting on price tags or sorting donated goods. One of the most popular ways to volunteer at Chatham Habitat for individuals to help out in either one of our ReStores in Pittsboro, NC. These stores not only help reduce waste in our landfills and provide high quality used goods, but they help fund 3 or more homes each year. Thus, you can make a families dream of owning a safe, energy efficient, decent home possible without ever even swinging a hammer. In addition, this is a great way to meet people in the community.

The two stores are very unique in the items they sell with one ReStore offering home furnishings and furniture while the other provides appliances, building supplies, and hardware. Shifts are in 2-3 hour blocks from Monday through Saturday (9AM-6PM), so it is able to fit into anyone's schedule. 40 volunteers are needed each week to fill the slots in both stores.

About Chatham Habitat for Humanity

Location:

PO Box 883, 467 West Street, Pittsboro, NC 27312, US

Mission Statement

Chatham Habitat for Humanity works in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all walks of life, to develop communities with people in need by building and renovating houses, so that there are decent houses in decent communities in which every person can experience God's love and can live and grow into all that God intends.

Description

Chatham Habitat for Humanity (CHFH), an affiliate of Habitat for Humanity International, has been an active part of Chatham County since 1989 when volunteers in the community noticed the growing need for decent, safe, affordable housing. We have completed over 100 houses.

Families are approved for a Habitat home based on their need, their ability to commit to a mortgage, and their willingness to contribute at least 350 hours of labor or sweat equity.

Over 300 Chatham County residents have benefited from moving into a safe, decent Habitat home. Many children in these homes previously lived in housing with rotting floors and ceilings, inadequate or nonexistent indoor plumbing, no heat and faulty wiring. Some families have previously lived in neighborhoods of violence and drug activity. The solution to poverty housing is through the empowerment of individuals, families and communities.
