The Pharmacy Assistant Volunteer will assist the pharmacy staff in providing quality service to the clients. Proof of certification and licensure as a Pharmacy Assistant by the State of Washington must be provided. The supervising pharmacist will thoroughly instruct the pharmacy assistant volunteer in the limitations of the functions s/he may perform. It is important for the volunteer to consistently wear a name tag. The duties and responsibilities of the volunteer include:

- Places, receives, unpacks and stores drug orders.

- Files and retrieves various pharmacy records as required.

- Files completed prescriptions alphabetically on the shelf for patient pick-up.

-Maintains assigned work areas and equipment in clean and orderly condition.

- Hands out refills when specifically requested to do so by a pharmacist where no counseling is deemed necessary.

- Handles non-professional phone calls.

- Operates cash register and related front counter tasks.

- Under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist, the volunteer counts and pours from stock bottles for individual prescriptions.
