Join Read Up! The Nevada County Adult Literacy Program. Tutors are dedicated community volunteers who wish to help interested students reach their potential. A tutor training class will be provided and no previous teaching experience is required. ESL/Literacy tutoring is an enjoyable and productive way to give back to your community. In this position you will be able to encourage and promote literacy, learn new skills, meet new people who share similar goals and interests and gain a deeper understanding of values and lifestyles different from your own. Training and support is provided through the Library Literacy Service. It is very helpful to have some knowledge of another language, preferably Spanish.

Make a Difference in Your Community!
The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provides opportunities for people 55 and over to make a difference in their community through volunteer service. RSVP volunteers contribute anywhere from a few to over forty hours a week, serving through schools, day care centers, police departments, hospitals and other nonprofit and public organizations to help meet critical community needs. RSVP offers maximum flexibility and choice to its volunteers. RSVP matches the personal interests and skills of older Americans with opportunities to help solve community problems and offers supplemental insurance while on duty, and on-the-job training from the agency or organization where volunteers are placed.
