ORGANIZATION: Society of St. Vincent de Paul

  • 58 people are interested

In 2013, over 20,000 people turned to the Society St. Vincent de Paul's Help Line in hope of getting help to meet basic needs.

Our volunteers reached out to these individuals and responded to their needs. This is not a live call center. We take the messages off the phone and return calls.

If you have a sincere desire to help someone in need and approach situations in a non-judgmental manner, this is an excellent position for you.

The time commitment is flexible, though we ask that you volunteer a minimum of 2.5 hours each shift.

Mission Statement

A network of neighbors, inspired by Gospel values, growing in holiness and building a more just world through personal relationships with and service to people in need.

Description

Although the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is a worldwide organization with nearly 600,000 members in 133 countries, there is one simple common denominator that links all of the members and sums up their work...that is, neighbors helping neighbors.

The Cincinnati District Council of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul has been helping Cincinnati and Hamilton County residents in need for almost 150 years. More than 800 members, volunteers, and staff in 60 neighborhoods visit people in need in their homes and help with basic necessities like food, clothing, rent, utilities & furniture. St. Vincent de Paul's safety net extends into virtually every neighborhood in Cincinnati. When the poor and vulnerable of our community have no other place to turn, the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is there for them, regardless of race or creed.
