Are you passionate about reading? Is losing yourself in a good book your idea of a wonderful use of time? Do you want to help someone learn to read, not only for the enjoyment, but for the quality of life reading provides? The inability to read can be difficult and even detrimental both personally and financially. Employers are increasingly expecting workers to have at least a GED or high school diploma. Important documents and forms such as insurance, driver registration, health questionnaires, school applications and even simple everyday items such food labels, medicinal dosages and directional signs require the ability to read at a particular grade level.

RSVP of Brevard has partnered with Brevard Literacy Alliance and is recruiting volunteers who believe in the importance of knowing how to read. Brevard Literacy Alliance is an all-volunteer, nonprofit agency whose mission is to teach English literacy skills to individuals so they may reach their full potential in their families, jobs, and communities. As a tutor, you will help your students learn to read by following an established, simple curriculum at a pace that is comfortable for you both. Tutoring sessions typically occur in public facilities such as libraries and schools throughout Brevard County. There is presently a great need for tutors in Titusville, Cocoa, and Palm Bay.

Please note that in order to become an RSVP member, you must be 55 or older. However, if you do not meet the age requirement but are interested in this opportunity, we will gladly refer you to the agency.
