Southerners just know that one of the best ways to help a family in crisis is to feed them! Returning to the Ronald McDonald House to find a warm, nutritous dinner after a long day at the bedside of a child means so much to families far from home. The RMHC relies on volunteers each day to cook a meal at the House, or bring in food from a grocery, a restaurant, or even take-out. We welcome you to be a guest chefs once a week, once a month, or to provide a one time treat!
To sign up for a meal, please call our Volunteer Coordinator, or go to the RMHC website: www.rmhcharlottesville.org. Click on "get involved," then "meals from the heart" for more details. There is a calendar that will show you the days we need your generosity.
Meal Donation Information:
1. All food must come from a grocery, restaurant, take-out or catering kitchen, OR be prepared at the RMHC kitchen.
2. The menu is completely up to you! Please make a meal that appeals to different ages, is nutrtious, easy to keep warm, and good for leftovers.
3. Please provide enough food to feed 20-25 people.
4. You bring the food, and use our pots and pans, dishes, utensils and basic condiments and spices.
5. Dinner is set out buffet-style at 6:30 pm each day. Guests arrive throughout the evening and serve themselves.
6. Please be familiar with the basic rules of food safety and folllow them closely. We will provide a short orientation into the kitchen and rules.
7. Know the ingredients in your food, so people with allergies and other vulnerabilities can stay healthy.

Mission Statement
To lessen the burden, reduce stress, keep the family intact, and enhance the quality of life for families whose children face health issues, the RMHC provides affordable housing and meets other critical needs in a caring home-like atmosphere.
How We Fulfill Our Mission:
- Our House provides shelter and services for entire families 365 days of the year.
- We provide shelter for up to four family members in private rooms with baths, plus access to kitchen and laundry facilities, a playroom, wi-fi, and other amenities.
- We often provide a meal a day for every resident. These are made possible by generous donations of time and food, and are prepared by community volunteers; we have food supplies available for snacks and other meals.
- Shuttle transportation is available to and from the hospital for our residents, provided by UVA.
- We offer a host of services and activities to make the stay as enjoyable as possible for all members of the family.
- We provide the opportunity for families to connect with those who care and understand what they are going through, including families with similar concerns.
- We partner with community and corporate sponsors to fund the portion of each night’s stay not covered by the family’s contribution.

Description
The Ronald McDonald House of Charlottesville (RMHC-C) provides a temporary home-away-from-home for families whose children are receiving treatment or care for serious health issues or injury at medical centers in Charlottesville. These families live at least an hour away from the medical aattention that is essential to their child's health, and may need to be in the area for an indefinite length of time.
