Do you have intermediate computer skills and a desire to help adults with barriers to employment find jobs in this difficult economy?

PPL's Employment Training programs have two computer access labs open to the public. Participants work independently or receive 1:1 assistance to search for employment & educational opportunities online.

Job Search Coaches work in a lab with multiple computers, a Star Tribune Job Kiosk, and a variety of software and resource materials. Work one-on-one with participants to teach basic computer skills and to offer support and guidance in their job seeking process.

TIME AND LOCATION:

PPL Learning Center at 1925 Chicago Ave, Mpls. 55404 (corner of Franklin and Chicago)

Shifts available: Thursdays 2-4pm and Fridays 1-4pm

Minimum 6 month commitment, 2+ hours/week (or one semester for students).

Responsibilities:
•Teach participants basic computer skills
•Work with participants to job search, complete on-line job applications, develop resumes, set up email and access educational opportunities
•Direct participants to community resources such as housing, ex-offender, mental health, job training, childcare, credit/budgeting, etc
•Orient new participants to the lab policies, software and accessibility tools
•Assist with special projects and lab maintenance
•Remind participants of lab rules and help maintain professional environment

Skills Needed:
•Ability to work with adults from diverse backgrounds and strong interpersonal skills
•Proficient with computers, Microsoft Word and using the Internet as a search tool
*Spanish and Somali speakers needed!
