Be a Mentor for a FIRST Robotics team! Your technology, business or life skills will be invaluable to students as they build a robot for competition in this after school program that teaches Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and workforce development skills throughout Arizona. You can help prepare today's youth for a better tomorrow!
AZFirst is a 501(c)3 organization whose purpose is to raise funds to support after school robotics programs that promote STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) and workforce development for FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology- www.usfirst.org). Since 2003, AZFirst has utilized a network of volunteers from industry and the community to work with K-12 schools and community teams to mentor students and hold robotics competitions in Arizona. We have opportunities in many areas. As much time as you can give is appreciated. Several volunteer options:
Adult mentors for FIRST robotics teams to help organize teams and build robots for competition.
Volunteers (ages 16 - to adult) for a regional robotics event March 9-12, 2016 at Northern Arizona University "Skydome" in Flagstaff, AZ and April 6-9, 2016 at Grand Canyon University, Phoenix, AZ
Volunteers to be on the Arizona FIRST Planning Committee to plan FIRST events in Arizona.

Mission Statement
The mission of AZFirst is to initiate and support, through programs, grants and scholarships, the study of science, technology and engineering by students at the middle school, high school, college and graduate school levels. Among other activities, AZFirst plans to provide financial assistance for FIRST Lego League Tournaments that involve middle school students and for US FIRST robotics competitions that involve high school students. AZFirst will also sponsor science education activities at all levels and offer financial assistance to high school, college and graduate students who intend to pursue careers as scientists and engineers. AZFirst also plans to promote and provide funding to charitable organizations that promote the appreciation and study of science, technology and engineering by students as well as other charitable organizations within the Phoenix, Arizona metropolitan area.
Description
FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) is an after school program where kids practice STEM (Science, Technology Engineering and Match) in a fun way by building robots for a competition. Industry mentors volunteer to share their knowledge in areas like electrical engineering, programming, machining, team building, marketing, etc. Students on a FIRST team are eligible for over $12 million in scholarships.
