American Heart Association and American Stroke Association Volunteer Receptionist/Clerical Position - Temporary (Commit of six months preffered) Function: The American Heart Association and American Stroke Association is looking for a consistent volunteer to come into our office every week to answer phones and perform light clerical work. The volunteer is responsible for answering the telephone in a pleasant manner, directing calls to the appropriate staff members; responding to routine inquiries; receiving visitors and notifying appropriate staff of their arrival; and related activities. Ensures a high quality of friendly, professional service is provided to all callers, visitors, volunteers, staff and others. In addition providing clerical duties as needed. Volunteer must be reliable, punctual and able to work with minimal supervision. Major Duties: Respond and refer all telephone calls to the appropriate field offices; visitors to the Sacramento office in an efficient, appropriate and courteous manner. Respond to inquiries regarding AHA programs, events and products (i.e., educational materials, research programs, special events, conferences, etc.). Check, forward, or respond to messages from the General Delivery box (off-hours line) at the start of business day. Perform accurate data entry to update various databases May be responsible for performing "Open/Close Up Procedures" Maintaining front office appearance Clerical duties may be assigned. This may include, but not limited to, typing letters, reports, memos, bulk/mass mailing, researching, outreach calls, creating print materials and assisting with various other projects as needed. Qualifications: Knowledge of business English, spelling, grammar and punctuation. Very effective interpersonal skills and ability to maintain a friendly, professional manner in all dealings with customer, staff and others. Demonstrates skills receiving, transferring or otherwise handling incoming calls a day. Ability to handle telephone conversations professionally in answering, directing and responding to inquiries. Ability to work in a team environment and interact with staff, volunteers, and public (both individually and in-groups). Basic clerical skills (e.g., data entry/familiarity with keyboard, filing, copying) Preferred experience with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook. But not required. Volunteer must pass a background check*
