Description
PPL Scholars & Leaders after-school program, serving 1st-8th grade youth living at PPL affordable housing sites, needs volunteers from diverse backgrounds and experiences to work with young people to build essential literacy skills.
Program Dates & Times:
Scholars: Mondays (5-7 PM weekly), Nov.- May
Leaders: Tuesdays, (5-7 PM weekly), Nov.- May
Location:
Scholars: 4046 Lyndale Ave N Mpls, MN 55412
Leaders: 4320 North Newton Ave Mpls, MN 55412
Qualifications:
•Consistent weekly program attendance
•Enthusiasm for helping young people learn
•Ability to lead in a positive, nurturing manner
Program Activities:
•Provide hands-on attention that empowers youth to develop greater self-confidence and strong literacy skills.
•Maintain a safe and supportive learning environment.
•Work as a team to help a child reach their literacy goals through individual skill-building activities.
Support & Benefits:
•Comprehensive volunteer orientation and training is provided prior to program start.
•Guidance and encouragement from PPL staff and other volunteers
•Gain experience in literacy education and working with diverse groups of youth.
