The Little Loomhouse is looking for a volunteer to develop a direction for our tranquil landscape. Our rustic setting is heavily shaded by the Mighty Oaks of Kenwood Hill.

The Little Loomhouse (LLH), 928 Kenwood Hill Road, Louisville, Ky 40210 - Phone # Point Person: (include contact information) The Little Loomhouse is seeking able-bodied conservation volunteers of all ages to help with the ongoing removal (pulling by hand of invasive bush honeysuckle . Our goal is to remove this spreading shrub from selected sites on the property where it is threatening native plant populations and reducing and/or weakening native plant germination, growth, and sustainability. Conservation minded volunteers are needed to assist staff with the management of this highly invasive shrub. If you are interested, we are having an orientation meeting on July 15, 2015, from 9 a.m. to 12 noon in the main lecture hall. ALL INTERESTED VOLUNTEERS MUST ATTEND THIS MEETING. Mission Statement

The mission of the Lou Tate Foundation is to educate students of all ages about the history and continue the legacy of founder Lou Tate, master weaver, by ensuring the preservation of the Little Loomhouse landmark cabins and by educating students of all ages about the history of weaving and textile arts through diverse programs, residencies and community partnerships. Our Vision is for the Little Loomhouse landmark to be the national leader of introducing weaving, textile arts and their history from the Little Loomhouse landmark cabins.

Description

The Little Loomhouse is an arts and culture center on the National Register of Historic Places and is a Louisville Landmark. The complex consists of three Victorian cabins. The first, called Esta, was built in 1870. This is the cabin in which the Happy Birthday song was sung for the very first time.

The Little Loomhouse has had the honor of hosting some very famous guests over the years including First Lady Eleanor Roosevelt and architect Frank Lloyd Wright.

In addition to hosting school field trips, summer camps, and workshops onsite in the cabins for students of all ages, the Little Loomhouse also demonstrates and teaches weaving and other folk art at cultural, educational and art events throughout the state.
