CHOICES Presenters Needed - 8th Grade at Washington Jr High

Description

CHOICES is a proven curriculum designed to motivate junior-high students by showing them how responsible choices increase their options in life. EfTA trains volunteers from all occupations to present CHOICES to eighth graders in the classroom. The CHOICES presentation includes activities that help students realize the power of decisions and their consequences, and show them that they are responsible for their attitudes and reputations. CHOICES also covers time and money management, educational requirements for a variety of careers, and the students future impact on society. Community volunteer presenters are needed to go into classrooms with the 45-minute/90-minute interactive program.

Skills

  • Presentation: Comfortable speaking to classroom full of 8th grade students and engaging them in fun activities. OK handling some degree of classroom control (teacher is always in the room to assist).
  • Mentorship: Volunteers serve to reinforce messages most have heard from parents and teachers. Mentorship attitude and messaging coming from outside concerned adults resonates strongly with these youth.
