There is a need in the community for people who can be compassionate and empathtic. There is a need in the community for people with good listening and interpersonal communication skills. If you have these qualities, there is a need for you.

This job is with the "Partners in Palliative Care", a group of organizations that help cancer patients in the last 24 months of life.

In this job you would have these responsibilities and duties:

  • Provide quality listening care to patient/family through monthly phones call(s).
  • Maintain patient/family confidentiality
  • Communicate patient/family immediate needs to Partners clinic nurse or program assistant.
  • Complete monthly written report and send to the Volunteer Coordinator, including number of hours required to complete phone call(s) and report.
  • Attend at leaset one Partners Volunteer Quarterly meeting.
  • Willing to give one month's notice of ending volunteer responsibilities.

In this job you would:

  • Reach out to patient and family by phone each month (or more often) to assess physical, emotional and spiritual well being.
  • Increase the quality of patients life and decrease unnecessary and or unwanted hospitalizations and emergency department visits.

In this job you commit:

  • To one year of monthly phone calls to patient(s).

In this job you can:

  • Demonstrate excellent listening skills and interpersonal communication skills
  • Be dependable and responsible
  • Verbalize and demonstrate acceptance of others beliefs and values
  • Recognize when to contact the clinic nurse or program assistant regarding patient concerns.
  • Recognize your own personal strengths and weaknesses.

Mission Statement

The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Snohomish County matches skills/training and preferences of persons 55+ to available volunteer opportunities and promotes their voluntary service as a valuable community resource.

Description

RSVP matches personal interests, skills and lifelong experiences with non-profit public organizations at over 116 different partner agencies, including non-profits, throughout the county. Benefits of being an RSVP volunteer are: ~excess insurance coverage including Liability, Auto, and Accident. ~partial reimbursement for transporatation costs to and from volunteer stations, subject to certain regulations and limits. ~ongoing recognition and Annual Recognition Event to RSVP volunteers. The only agency tracking and reporting the volunteer activities of persons age 55 and older through the National Senior Corps, RSVP promotes retired and senior persons as viable members of the community, able to share their skills, time and experience through volunteer service.
