The Learning Assistant will work with a small group of students who live at HomeFirst transitional housing units in Santa Clara County. Learning Assistants will be responsible for meeting with students either on a one-to-one basis, or in small groups. The minimum commitment required is one and a half hour shift per week for six months. A Learning Assistant may focus on: reading, writing, mathematics, and science, or in study skills; work on independent living skills, social skills, or career exploration; lead activities such as arts and crafts, or recreation; share hobbies, interests, and skills.

The Learning Assistant works closely with volunteer coordinator to better understand student needs and to help facilitate activities. She/he serves as a role model to demonstrate a positive attitude, respect for self and others, and enthusiasm for learning. Tutor Club are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday 5:30-7:00pm. Either of the assigned days are perfect to volunteer, but our desparate need for volunteers are Wednesay evenings. The reasons are we're short on staff those days. Volunteers should be 18+ years old, or older.
