Track work is fun!
There's something for every age and ability to do at the WW&F Railway Museum.

Come and help us restore a historic two-foot narrow gauge railroad. There are plenty of opportunities for all ages and abilities. Learn railroad operations from the early 1900's on our steam locomotive hauled trains. Projects include basic maintenance; building track; machine work; carpentry; construction; care for our buildings, grounds, and right-of-way; office work; cooking and cleaning; and much more. We are an all-volunteer organization preserving this unique aspect of Maine's (and US) history. Check our web site and/discussion forum for updates on planned projects and activities.

Fridays in July and August are our annual summer work days. Please join us for various maintanance tasks around the railroad. Most of the work usually centers around trimming the grass along the rail line - but other projects may be available.

Please stop in on any Friday morning, July 3, 10, 17, 24, 31 & Aug. 7, 14, 21, 28 and we'll put you to work. We'll be glad to have you and you'll be glad you came.

About Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway Museum

Location:

97 Cross Road, PO Box 242, Alna, ME 04535, US

Mission Statement

The Wiscasset, Waterville & Farmington Railway Museum, Inc., is a nonprofit organization established in 1989 to acquire, preserve, and restore the operation of narrow gauge railroads and equipment which operated in the Sheepscot Valley and on other roads and to establish a Museum for the display of artifacts for enlightenment and education of the general public concerning the social and economic impact of railroads on the communities served.

Description

The WW&F Railway Museum is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, dedicated to the display and preservation of the two-foot gauge Wiscasset, Waterville, and Farmington Railway; and its predecessor roads, the WW&F Railroad and the Wiscasset and Quebec Railroad. To that end, we attempt to replicate history as best we can, through the use of steam locomotives, hand signals, and the methods used by people on the original railroad, as much as possible. We are entirely volunteer-run.

Volunteers are a critical part of our operation. It is the volunteers that work on our projects, that meet and greet our visitors, and that operate our trains. We have no paid staff.

We encourage new volunteers to come and find a place with us. Because of the variety of things we do, and the potential dangers of working around railroad equipment, we require that new volunteers only do work at the railroad when there are longer-term volunteers around, at least for the first couple of months, so that we can "show you the ropes".

To volunteer, just show up. All ages, abilities, and interests are welcome.
